How does Lumecca work?
Lumecca harnesses various wavelengths of light that safely penetrate the outer layers of skin and target pigment-producing cells just beneath the surface. That light energy then converts to gentle heat that works to destroy melanin-producing cells and reduce hyperpigmentation and other abnormalities. Once treated, the damaged cells eventually rise to the surface and flake off to reveal more healthy-looking, glowing skin.

How many Lumecca treatments will I need?
Though many patients experience improvement after only one treatment, we may recommend a series of treatments depending on exactly what’s being treated. If that’s the case, around three treatments spaced about four weeks apart typically offer the greatest improvement. But that will depend on a number of factors, such as the degree of the skin condition, your individual skin type, and the size of the area being treated, among other things. We’ll discuss all the details at your consultation and design a treatment plan that best aligns with your goals.
What should I expect during and after my Lumecca IPL treatment?
During your treatment, there will be bright flashes of light emitted from the device, which will cause a sensation that feels like the snap of a small rubber band on your skin. Most patients tolerate this very well. After treatment, mild redness and a slight warming sensation are normal and usually subside within a few hours. Little to no recovery time is needed. We just advise you to limit any sun exposure and be consistent in wearing sunscreen in the weeks following your Lumecca treatment.
When will I see results from my Lumecca treatment?
Most patients begin noticing changes in their face within about a week to 10 days following treatment. Other areas of the body, if treated, may take around six to eight weeks to show the greatest improvement, depending on the depth of the skin and the size of the area. Improvement in sun damage and skin complexion are usually seen a few days after the first session, while vascular treatments may take about two weeks to diminish. If a series of treatment is deemed best for you, you’ll likely experience increasingly positive results following each additional session.
