Peel Away Imperfections with a VI Peel at Skin Esteem.

Don’t you wish you could just “peel” away skin imperfections and the signs of aging to reveal a glowing complexion? In some cases, you can! There are a variety of chemical peels available that have shown promise in diminishing fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, and even acne. VI Peel solutions can be customized to suit your unique skin structure and to address your specific concerns, making this treatment a great option for people of all skin types and tones in Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati, and beyond.

How do VI Peels work to improve my skin?

To put it simply, chemical peels remove the superficial outer layers of your skin to bring newer, healthier-looking skin underneath to the surface. A chemical solution containing varying ingredients is applied, which then works to gently peel away damaged, dull layers of skin at different depths depending on your needs. As that outer skin is exfoliated, imperfections are reduced and signs of aging (like lines and wrinkles) are smoothed away to help make way for a glowing complexion.

What different types of VI Peels are available?

At Skin Esteem, we utilize the following trusted VI Peel methods:

  • VI Peel Original Tone & Texture – This solution is great for first-time corrective peel clients and those with sensitive skin. It addresses the early signs of aging (ages 20+) and rough texture.
  • Maintenance Peel VI Peel Advanced Collagen Stimulation – This peel is well suited for people showing the more advanced signs of aging (ages 40+). It can help tackle wrinkles, fine lines, and loss of elasticity.
  • VI Peel Precision Plus Skin Discoloration – This peel is formulated to help even out discoloration issues, such as UV-induced pigmentation, sun damage, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
  • VI Peel Purify Active Acne & Oily Skin – For those with oily and congested skin, active acne breakouts, teen acne, or acne-prone skin, this peel may offer an effective solution.
  • VI Peel Purify with Precision Plus Acne & Acne Scarring – This peel can be ideal for those who have excessively oily skin, acne with hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, or hormonal acne.

When you schedule your peel appointment at Skin Esteem, you will speak with our advanced esthetician who will help you decide which peel is right for you.

What’s it like getting a chemical peel?

This a common question for our first timers, so here’s how it works: First, we’ll thoroughly cleanse your skin to get rid of any remnants of dirt or oil that may be there without you even knowing it. After that, we apply the peel solution that’s decided upon before your treatment that best suits your skin type and personal aesthetic goals. While the solution works its magic, you might feel some tingling or experience a bit of numbness depending on the solution that’s used. After it’s had some time to take its intended effect, the solution is then washed off.

With many peel formulas, your skin will generally peel over about three days following your treatment.

How do I prepare for a VI Peel?

In order to best prepare for your VI Peel, we ask that you avoid using any retinoids or products that contain glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide at least a week prior to your peel. Also, avoid any microneedling treatments two to four weeks prior, sun exposure one week prior, and electrolysis, depilatory creams, waxing, or laser hair removal one week prior.

How do I care for my skin following my VI Peel?

You will be provided with a special post-care kit after your VI Peel along with detailed instructions on how to use it. Immediately following your treatment, do not wash or touch the treated skin, and do not apply makeup for at least four hours. Avoid direct sun exposure for one week, and don’t use any topicals such as AHA’s, retinol, vitamin A, or any other type of exfoliating product until the peeling process is totally complete.

Do chemical peels hurt, and are there any side effects?

Yet another great thing about VI Peels is that they are self-neutralizing, which means they are generally painless as opposed to other chemical peel solutions on the market. For several days after the peel, your skin will likely appear red or flushed (like a mild sunburn). We recommend you apply sunscreen regularly in the days and weeks after your peel. Trust us on that one!

What results can I expect from my VI Peel?

Once all that dull, lackluster skin is peeled away over the course of a few days after treatment, you’ll likely enjoy a younger-looking, more glowing complexion that lasts for approximately two to six months, depending on the specific peel you choose.
